Melanie Osborne is responsible for providing legal guidance to Chugach’s board of directors and executive leadership team. She also provides legal oversight and leadership across the Chugach organization. Melanie is a lifelong Alaskan with a passion for advocating on behalf of the Alaska Native community. She has garnered more than 16 years of experience with tribal organizations and Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs), and has been involved in a wide range of areas involving legislation, lands, compliance, litigation, employment, share inheritance and other legal issues.
Prior to joining Chugach in 2014, Melanie served as vice president and deputy general counsel at NANA Development Corporation, vice president and general counsel for Ahtna, Inc., and as an attorney at Stoel Rives LLP and Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Miller and Munson LLP.
Melanie is involved in several community organizations, and currently serves as on the boards of The Nature Conservancy, Alaska Legal Services and other professional organizations. She holds a law degree from the University of Washington and bachelor’s degrees in justice and psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
